Easy Pumpkin Spice Lattes 

Pumpkin everything season is upon us, do you need your pumpkin spice latte fix?  Check out this easy recipe with a healthier twist.  Yes this is an easy yet healthy option to the delicious creamy pumpkin spice latte!  Nothing better than a warm mug in hand while watching the leaves change colors, with no sugar crash.

Pumpkin Season

Pumpkin spice latte is like the fall opening act, unfortunately that seasonal drive thru latte is not the best drink for our body.  (yup, even the non fat option)  The sugar in those drinks is way more than we should consume in the entire day.  So what if you can make a homemade pumpkin spice latte with real ingredients that won’t spike your blood sugar through the roof?

Natural unrefined sweeteners

Natural unrefined sweeteners like maple syrup, coconut sugar and raw honey are always best,  they are recognized as food by our body which makes it easier to regulate our blood sugar and avoid sugar spikes.  Not only do these real foods serve as a sweetener but can actually be good for you.  There’s enzymes, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants in real sweeteners.  

You can even use dates or date syrup (blended dates cooked into a syrup), works amazing in this recipe!  

Sugar free all the way? 

Now if you want sugar free, a few stevia drops do the job.  Stevia can be both a genetically modified ingredient OR a real food sweetener, it is important to flip the package and read the ingredients.  Look for pure leaf stevia extract.

Raw Milk 

This recipe was made with raw milk, from local pasture raised cows.  If is not accessible to you or prefer a dairy free option, simply swap out for your favorite dairy free milk.  The latte froths up regardless of the milk once you blend it but for taste preferences I always pair coffee with raw milk. 

PSL Essentials

We need pumpkin puree, coffee, milk, sweetener, vanilla, and pumpkin pie spice.  If you can’t find pumpkin pie spice,  it’s been sold out at Natural Grocers and we’re 2 weeks into October (it’s pretty serious), you can mix the spices yourself.  

Pumpkin Pie Spice, mix the following. 

  • 3 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons ginger
  • 2 teaspoons nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon clove

Homemade PSL Recipe

The Recipe:

Pumpkin Spice Latte
Serves 2
An easy pumpkin spice latte recipe made with no artificial ingredients or refined sweeteners.
Write a review
  1. 2 cups milk
  2. 1 cup brewed coffee
  3. 2 tablespoons pumpkin puree
  4. 2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey
  5. 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  6. 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  1. In a saucepan, add all the ingredients. Simmer over low heat for 5 minutes, while stirring with a whisk. (If you are using raw milk, just heat enough to serve hot, do not boil.)
  2. Transfer mix to a blender and blend for 30 second until it becomes frothy. You can also use an immersion blender or milk frother.
  3. Serve in your favorite fall mug and sprinkle with extra pumpkin pie spice.
