Tortilla chips are so easy to make at home, and they’re delicious.  Nothing like homemade chips and guacamole.  The process is super simple and you don’t need any fancy equipment or ingredients.

Corn Tortillas

Use your favorite corn tortillas to make the easiest homemade chips.  You just cut them and cook them to crisp them up.  There’s two ways to crisp the tortillas, frying or baking.  Both get the job done, it just depends on what you prefer.  Baking is easier if you’re not too comfortable in the kitchen, fear + hot oil = not a good combo!

Frying The Chips 

My top choice oil for frying chips is avocado oil.  Pick a stable cooking fat with high heat smoke point, read more on fats and oils here.  

Baking Chips 

If you rather bake the chips in the oven, you have more choices with your cooking oil since the cooking temperature is lower.  Even olive oil works for the oven baked chips.

Fried Corn Chips
  1. 8 corn tortillas
  2. 1/4 cup avocado oil
  3. 1 teaspoon sea salt
Baked Corn Chips
  1. 8 corn tortillas
  2. 1 tablespoon avocado oil
  3. 1 teaspoon sea salt
Fried Chips
  1. Cut the tortillas into eights.
  2. Line a plate or dish with paper towels.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat add 2 1/2 tablespoon of avocado oil, you'll add more oil as you cook more chips.
  4. Once the avocado oil is at frying temperature, fry the chips for a minute, or until golden, on each side.
  5. Place the cooked chips in the paper towel lined plate to salt once they are all cooked.
Baked Chips
  1. Preheat oven to 375F.
  2. Cut the tortillas in eighths.
  3. Mix the tortilla slices with avocado oil.
  4. Bake the chips for 15-20 minutes or until golden.
  5. Sprinkle the salt over the chips fresh out the oven and enjoy.
